Once B got used to the tube, it wasn't so bad. Normally it stays in for a few days, but they thought he would be able to have his out earlier. While laying in bed, he motioned to me with his right hand to take a picture. I asked if he wanted it of the incision and he said no, the tube before it came out! It made us smile. They needed to do an MRI to make sure things were still good that morning and wanted to keep the tube in while that took place just in case. They told me & W that it would be 2-3 hours, so we went across the street to get some breakfast and get out for a bit. When we returned 1 1/2 hours later, he was back in the room, sitting up, and no tube! He looked great! When he entered the hospital, he weighed 154. So far he had not been able to eat or drink anything since midnight the 24th. Many had been fasting for him on Thursday, and his friends and others also had a "Recovery Fast" for him this day. He was doing much better than was expected, or than most, so we know all the prayers and fasting on his behalf were working. As he became more awake and alert throughout the day, we were able to see some of the affects of the surgery. His left side was very numb, he was not really able to use his left hand, his left arm had involuntary movement, the right side of his face was paralyzed (nothing was wrong with that before the surgery), his eyes couldn't follow to the right more than near half point, and he was still seeing double. This was more than frustrating to him, to say the least. But we kept reminding him that Dr. Spetzler had said WITH TIME, they were hopeful/optimistic that all would return to normal. An Occupational Therapist came early in the afternoon and helped him sit up on the side of the bed. Because of the surgery and the double vision, his world was spinning. It didn't take long before the vomiting began. The OT was hoping that he could get him up and sitting in a big, high-back chair, but it was just too much. He was able to have a few visitors that day, but it only took 5-10 minutes to completely tire him out. The vomiting continued through the day, even with anti-nausea medication given. It was a tough day.
